Teatime: My Skincare Routine

May 13, 2018

Skincare is one of the most important steps for my daily night and morning routine. As someone who has very oily skin and visible pores, I've lived with blackheads and acne my whole life. I go from applying many, many kinds of different products on my face with hopes that they would clean up my face (but I actually got allergic reactions twice), to using no more than five items. Although my skin still not super smooth and clear, it's much, much more manageable now.

Before I start, I would like to say that most of the products I use for my skincare are on the pricer-end, which includes all three products of the Clinique 3-Step System that I purchased on Black Fridays (comes with travel bottles!) and the essence from SK-II that I got as my birthday gift from my family last year.

Cleansing

Every morning and night, I wash my face with the first step (liquid facial soap) from the 3-Step kit. I've tried to wash my face only with water in the morning, but that just doesn't work for me. Another thing that really helps improve my skin is adding Clarisonic face brush in my night routine. Personally, the brush makes my skin feel very smooth and ensure that all my makeups are removed.

Toner/Essence

After I clean my face, I move on to the second step (clarifying lotion). I used to do this in both morning and night, but now I only do it at night. Then I would apply the toner/essence. The one I'm using right now is the SK II that I mentioned earlier. In my experience, it doesn't make a huge difference compared to the other toners or essences that I've used before, so I don't think that I will repurchase it after I finish this one, it's just too expensive.

Moisturize

I included eye cream in my skincare routine for almost a year now. The one I'm currently using is from Neutrogena, which I apply both morning and night. And for my face, I use the two different products for mornings and nights. In the morning, I apply the third step (moisturize gel) from Clinique, which is very lightweight and works well for me before I put on a bunch of makeup stuff. For night time, I use Pond's Facial Cream. I discovered this cream when I got my first allergic reaction (extreme dryness and peeling on my entire face) in my college freshman year. I bought it simply because it was sold in my college store, and I needed something heavier than a facial lotion, and I've been using it since!

Other than what I use daily, I would also do a sheet mask once a day. The one I'm using was. I got it from my mom, and I believe she bought it overseas. Also, the makeup removers that I'm using are Simple Kind to Skin Facial Wipes and Garnier's  Micellar Water.

Aside from applying everything I mentioned here and hoping for better skin, I also drink lots of water every day. Even though I don't have perfect skin and would still have blackheads and get acne occasionally, I'm really happy with how it looks most of the time!
